ALDOT seeks public input on proposed US-31 improvements in Spanish Fort
The proposal would widen US-31 from four to six lanes between US-90/US-98 and School Road, with signal upgrades and sidewalks.

The Alabama Department of Transportation is seeking public comments on an $8.2 million proposal to widen part of U.S. 31 and improve intersections in Spanish Fort.
The project would widen U.S. 31 from four to six lanes between the junction with U.S. 90 and U.S. 98 and School Road. It would also include improvements along U.S. 90, U.S. 98 and Alabama 225.
The proposal calls for upgrading traffic signals, adding sidewalks and changing how drivers enter and exit the roadway. ALDOT said the changes are intended to improve safety and help intersections handle more traffic.
ALDOT will hold a public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, at the Spanish Fort Community Center, 7361 Spanish Fort Blvd. Residents and business owners can review the plans, ask questions and comment while the project is still in the design phase.
ALDOT will accept comments through December 10, 2026. The public can submit comments in the following ways.
- Online at ALDOTinvolved.com, where project details are also available.
- Email to [email protected].
- Phone at (251) 470-8375, with a three-minute limit.
- Mail to the Alabama Department of Transportation, Attn: Jerome A. Reddick, 1701 I-65 West Service Road, North, Mobile, AL 36618.
ALDOT expects construction to begin between fall 2027 and spring 2028, take about 18 months and wrap up in 2029.
