US Attorney Jay Town names Robert Posey, Lloyd Peeples to leadership positions

U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town has named veteran federal prosecutor Robert O. Posey as executive assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama. Town also named Lloyd Peeples as first assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, the office’s number two post.

“Robert Posey is an institution of knowledge. His leadership is proven and battle-tested and the Northern District has been fortunate to have it for many years, and it is my hope we will have it for many years to come. Robert will remain a big part of the management team as our new executive assistant U.S. attorney,” Town said.

End Citizens United endorses Doug Jones for Senate

Wednesday, End Citizens United announced that they have endorsed Democratic nominee Doug Jones for U.S. Senate.

Jones, a former U.S. attorney, is running in the Alabama special election against Roy Moore in the Dec. 12 special election.

“An extremist with a racist, bigoted agenda, who will defend a corrupt, rigged system in Washington that favors the priorities of special interests over everyday Alabamians,” ECU said of Moore in their statement.

Reaction to US Senate primary runoff

Tuesday, the voters of Alabama selected Roy Moore to be the GOP candidate in the race to fill the Senate seat of Jeff Sessions , now U.S. attorney general.  Leaders from across Alabama and beyond congratulated Moore on the victory.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said in a statement: “One of my first acts as governor was to move the special election date so it was held in compliance with the law. Now the people have had their say.”

Biden to join Doug Jones for campaign event in Birmingham

The Doug Jones campaign announced on Wednesday that former Vice President Joe Biden will come to Alabama to headline a campaign rally with U.S. Senate Candidate Doug Jones in Birmingham later this month.

Jones said that he is honored that his friend, Biden, will headline an Oct. 3 rally for his campaign.

“We are thrilled and deeply honored to have my longtime friend Vice President Joe Biden visit the great state of Alabama to reinforce his strong support of my campaign for the U.S. Senate,” Jones said. “I have known and respected Joe Biden for almost 40 years now. He is the epitome of what we all hope public service can be.”
