Roby Comments on Obama’s Economic Speech

Congresswoman Martha Roby (R) from Montgomery on Wednesday responded to President Barack Obama’s speech on the state of the economy at Knox College in Illinois.

Representative Roby said, “I certainly welcome President Obama’s renewed interest in a conversation about our economic challenges. While American families are still struggling to make ends meet, we need more and not less discussion about jumpstarting job growth.”

Rep. Roby said, “I’m disappointed, however, that the President ignored the glaring economic problems created by his healthcare law. However well-intentioned, ObamaCare is driving up costs and dragging down our economy by making it harder for businesses to hire. A speech about economic challenges that fails to acknowledge the very real negative impact of ObamaCare just rings hollow.”

Rep. Roby said, “President Obama might be pivoting his message, but he isn’t pivoting his policies, and that’s a shame. Let’s pivot away from ObamaCare toward a patient-centered approach that actually improves care, brings down costs and doesn’t kill jobs. Let’s pivot toward a fairer and simpler tax code that unleashes this country’s pent up economic energy, making life better for Americans. Let’s pivot to an ‘all of the above’ energy strategy so families can afford to drive their cars, heat and cool their homes, and buy groceries.” Representative Roby has voted numerous times to repeal Obamacare.

President Obama is asking Congress to lift the debt ceiling again and to lift the sequestration which is limiting the growth of federal spending. President Obama still has not submitted either a balanced budget or even a budget which will lead to a balanced budget over the next ten years. Meanwhile the median household income has dropped and the economy is producing three times as many new part time jobs as it is full time jobs.

Congresswoman Roby concluded, “The American people are beginning to lose faith in this Administration – not because the President’s message isn’t working, but because his policies aren’t working.”
