Speaker’s Race To Be Decided Tuesday

By Bill Britt

MONTGOMERY—The Republican House Caucus will meet on Tuesday to select the next Speaker. The declared candidates are Representatives Steve Clouse, Lynn Greer, Mac McCutcheon, Barry Moore, Phil Williams and Mike Jones.

The Caucus consists of seventy House members, due to the vacancies created by Mike Hubbard’s conviction of felony public corruption and Mike Hill’s appointment as Superintendent of the State Banking Department.

According to Caucus members speaking on background, the vote will be like a primary. The top-two with the highest votes will face off in the final vote, which will also take place at Tuesday’s meeting.
