The Business Council of Alabama (BCA) has endorsed eight candidates for federal office in the General Election, including in the state’s two open-seat contests. All eight endorsements were unanimously approved by the BCA’s Board of Directors.
For the open U.S. Senate seat, BCA endorsed Katie Britt, who previously served as president and CEO of BCA. Britt decisively won a challenging primary runoff and is now the Republican nominee for the position being vacated by the retirement of U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby.
“Senator Shelby is leaving a distinguished history of service to the people of Alabama and the nation, and it will be challenging to match his many contributions to our state,” said BCA Board Chairman Mike Kemp. “In her role at BCA, Katie Britt’s energy and commitment to growing jobs and supporting the state’s economy has been experienced firsthand by Alabama’s job creators. We are confident that she will continue to be an ally in our efforts to create jobs and economic opportunities for Alabamians.”
In Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District election, BCA endorsed Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong, the Republican nominee who recently won a runoff for the seat currently occupied by retiring U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks.
“BCA is confident that Alabama’s Fifth Congressional District will have a strong advocate in Chairman Strong that proactively supports the area’s economy and strengthens the pro-business image of our entire state,” Kemp said.
Additionally, BCA endorsed the six incumbent members of Alabama’s U.S. House delegation who are seeking reelection to their respective positions: Representatives Jerry Carl (AL-01), Barry Moore (AL-02), Mike Rogers (AL-03), Robert Aderholt (AL-04), Gary Palmer (AL-06) and Terri Sewell (AL-07).
“Alabama is fortunate to have an experienced and talented congressional delegation that is responsive to the needs of job creators in every corner of our state,” Kemp said. “BCA is eager to have Katie Britt and Dale Strong join the ranks of this strong delegation after November’s election.
