Local activist and industrial worker Justin Weil has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the 2025 Decatur mayoral race. On Thursday, Weil filed his candidacy paperwork with the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office, signaling the start of his campaign for the August 26th, 2025, municipal elections.

Stepping forward with enthusiasm and energy, Weil presented a vision rooted in community engagement, effective governance, and local prosperity. Over the next year, he plans to host a series of town halls across Decatur, aiming to connect directly with residents. “This campaign is not about me,” Weil said. “It’s about the people of this city and truly listening to their needs and desires.”

Weil, who grew up in Huntsville and attended Virgil Grissom High School, has worked in manufacturing while pursuing part-time studies at Calhoun Community College. He is currently working towards a bachelor’s degree in urban planning at Alabama A&M University. His background in both education and industry shapes his vision for Decatur’s future.

Weil’s platform focuses on five key areas: crime and policing, infrastructure and public transportation, local economic development, housing, and the municipal budget. He believes his youth, energy, and fresh perspective will help Decatur thrive. “This city is full of opportunities for those willing to pursue them,” he remarked. “I’m excited about the prospect of serving this hardworking community and hope I can count on their support on August 26, 2025.”

As the campaign heats up, Weil is set to bring a new energy to the mayoral race, making his case directly to the people of Decatur.
