Rep. Moore’s “D.C. Garbage” advertisement wins Telly Award

The viral “D.C. Garbage” ad, where Moore declared himself the “garbage man you sent to D.C. to take out the trash,” earned national attention.

The campaign ad “D.C. Garbage,” produced for Congressman Barry Moore’s 2024 re-election run in Alabama’s 1st Congressional District, has won a Telly Award for Best Political Advertising in the craft of Directing. Voters saw the ad across Alabama, reaching over 175,000 views on YouTube.

Standing next to a roll-off dumpster, Congressman Moore delivers the punchline: “I’m the garbage man you sent to D.C. to take out the trash.” The ad quickly became a viral favorite among conservative voters.

The award-winning spot was directed by Jonathan Barbee, a 7 time Telly Award winner and political strategist. It was produced by Barbee Media Group, with sound design by Joel Brewer, editing support by Marc Ward, and media strategy by Jason Anderson of Freedom Media. The ad was written by Heather Moore, Congressman Moore’s wife, who also earned a Telly Award.

“This ad was personal for all of us,” said Jonathan Barbee, director and executive producer. “Barry’s story, from hauling trash to hauling truth in Congress, is as real as it gets. We just helped put it on screen in a way people could laugh with and believe in it. We’re honored to be recognized by the Telly Awards for telling it right and taking a stance against the swamp.”

“I used to run a garbage business. I know what real work looks like, and I know firsthand that Washington is long overdue for a cleanup,” said Congressman Barry Moore. “This ad was a fun way to deliver a serious message. I’m proud to stand with President Trump in saying it’s time to take out the D.C. trash. In fact, after this ad went viral, even President Trump brought out a garbage truck at one of his rallies. That just shows we’re on the same page and together, we’re the right team to clean up Washington.”

“D.C. Garbage” aired throughout the 2024 election cycle across Alabama’s 1st District and reached a national audience through social media. You can see the ad on Congressman Moore’s YouTube channel.

The Telly Awards, established in 1979, honor excellence in video and television across all screens. With over 13,000 entries annually from around the world, the Tellys are a top recognition for creative professionals across broadcast, digital, and social media. Past honorees include HBO, ESPN, Adobe, Netflix, and National Geographic.
