Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey has been named District Attorney of the Year, honoring her commitment to justice, public safety and the protection of the state’s most vulnerable citizens. The award was given at the Alabama District Attorney’s Association Summer Conference last week.

Known for her work ethic, Casey has personally tried 97 percent of the felony trials in Blount County since taking office in 2010. Her commitment to justice is reflected in the results: her average sentence in murder cases is 47 years.

“This honor reflects the hard work of our entire team here in Blount County,” Casey remarked. “Every day we stand together to ensure justice is served, criminals are convicted, and our  communities are protected.”

Casey’s career includes:

• “A record of handling complex and high-profile cases. In 2013, she served as a special prosecutor in a 15-year-old cold case homicide in another jurisdiction, securing a conviction and a 99-year sentence.

• “A deep commitment to protecting children and families. For more than a decade, she has trained law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and educators across the nation on the dangers of social media and strategies to protect children online.

• “Vigorously prosecuted child predators, resulting in hundreds of years of prison sentences. Notably, in 2019, she secured a 30 year sentence in one of Alabama’s first jury trials involving a child victim of human trafficking—the victim was just four years old. In 2024, she prosecuted one of the state’s first cases involving the Sexual Torture of a Child under the age of seven, resulting in a life without parole sentence. Between 2024 and 2025, she tried four other child sexual abuse trials, one resulting in a 360-year sentence and another in a 50-year sentence,” Casey’s release shared.

Covington County District Attorney Walt Merrell, vice-president of the Alabama District Attorney’s Association, nominated Casey for the award. “Pamela is known statewide for her steadfast dedication to justice and her willingness to tackle difficult and emotionally challenging cases. We commend her for building strong partnerships with law enforcement and victim advocacy groups in her community and across the state,” he said. Merrell secured over twenty letters of support from other district attorneys and supernumerary-retired district attorneys in his nomination of Casey.

Casey is a Republican candidate for Attorney General in the May 2026 primary election.

Angela Davis of the 27th Judicial Circuit (Calhoun County) was named Investigator of the Year. Carol Boone of the 30th Judicial Circuit (St. Clair County) was named Assistant District Attorney of  the Year.
