The Electric Cooperatives of Alabama Political Action Committee, the political arm of the Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives, announced its endorsement of former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell in his campaign for Alabama attorney general.

The endorsement was approved by the PAC’s board of directors, a group of leaders from Alabama’s electric cooperatives focused on supporting rural communities and the state’s energy industry.

“Jay Mitchell is a candidate who understands and is deeply committed to the issues that matter most to Alabama’s electric cooperatives—protecting our ability to provide safe, reliable, and affordable power while supporting the people and businesses that make up rural Alabama,” said Karl Rayborn, president and CEO of AREA. “He cares about the unique needs of rural communities and the critical role that electric cooperatives play in keeping Alabama strong and moving forward.”

“As a former Alabama Supreme Court Justice, Mitchell has earned a reputation for fairness, integrity and principled leadership, with a focus on serving the people of Alabama,” the organization shared.

The Electric Cooperatives of Alabama PAC said their endorsement reflects its continued commitment to supporting leaders who prioritize the needs of rural areas, promote sound energy policy, and strengthen the economic vitality of communities throughout the state.
