The Electric Cooperatives of Alabama Political Action Committee, the political arm of the Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives, announced Monday its endorsement of Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger for re-election to the Alabama Legislature and in his respective leadership role.

The endorsement was approved by the PAC’s board of directors, a group of leaders from Alabama’s electric cooperatives focused on supporting rural communities and the state’s energy industry.

“Pro Tem Gudger has been a steadfast advocate for Alabama’s electric cooperatives and a true champion for rural communities across our state,” said Karl Rayborn, CEO of AREA. “We are grateful for his leadership and are proud to stand with him as he continues to advance policies that shape Alabama’s future.”

“During the 2025 Alabama Legislative Session, Gudger played a key role in passing the Powering Growth Plan, a legislative package designed to accelerate Alabama’s energy infrastructure development and drive long-term economic growth,” the PAC said.

After passage of the Powering Growth Plan, Gudger said: “My key focus throughout the development of these bills has been to make sure that they support and grow opportunity in the rural parts of our state. We worked to include language in these bills that ensures a significant portion of this investment goes to rural Alabama, and I can’t wait to see the projects and economic growth that these investments will make for years to come. Energy security and dominance is critical for growth, and this is a big step forward in ensuring that we have both here in Alabama.”

The Electric Cooperatives of Alabama PAC endorsement of Gudger reflects its continued commitment to supporting leaders who prioritize the needs of rural areas, promote sound energy policy, and strengthen the economic vitality of communities throughout the state, the PAC shared.

The Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives represents 22 member-owned electric distribution cooperatives that provide reliable, affordable power to over 1 million Alabamians. Together with Tennessee Valley Authority, PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, and Southern Power, AREA helps its member cooperatives strengthen Alabama’s rural communities, promote sound energy policy, and grow the state’s economy through advocacy, education, and leadership development.
