Sen. Britt advances funding for Alabama’s military bases

Britt secured nearly $119.4 million for improvements and investments in Alabama’s military bases, advancing national defense infrastructure.

Sen. Katie Britt

Senator Katie Britt, R-Alabama, a member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, joined her colleagues Monday in advancing the 2026 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which included nearly $119.4 million for Alabama’s military installations. The bill is expected to be considered by the full Senate this week before heading to the U.S. House of Representatives.

In the bill, Britt directly secured nearly $32.4 million for improvements and investments in Alabama’s military bases.

“The future of our national defense infrastructure and warfighter will be stronger because of these investments in Alabama’s world-class capabilities. Now more than ever we need to protect our homeland from 21st-century threats. I know Alabama will be indispensable to ensuring America’s military readiness and unmatched lethality across the globe. I’m deeply proud to advance these wins for our state and look forward to getting this funding over the finish line to bring our tax dollars home to our communities,” said Britt.

A detailed breakdown of the Alabama priorities advanced by Britt can be found below.

Fort Rucker ($28.4 million):

  • Flight Control Tower at Tabernacle Stagefield – $8.1 million
  • Fire and Rescue Station at Tabernacle Stagefield – $6.6 million
  • Medical Evacuation Support Facility – $7.4 million
  • Flight Control Tower at Cairns Army Airfield – $2.7 million
  • Lowe Army Aircraft Maintenance Hangar – $3.6 million

Maxwell Air Force Base ($4 million):

  • Combined All-Domain Wargaming Center – $4 million

Redstone Arsenal ($55 million):

  • Propulsion Systems Building – $55 million

Anniston Army Depot ($32 million):

In total, the 2026 MilCon-VA Appropriations Act would provide $19.8 billion for the Department of Defense military construction program to fund more than 280 projects at military bases around the world, and $133.3 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs, including funding for VA medical care.
