The Alabama Grocers Association on Thursday announced its official endorsement of Corey Hill for Alabama agriculture commissioner in the upcoming 2026 election.
The Association shared that Corey Hill, a 4th-generation farmer, successful grocery store operator, and the current mayor of Douglas in Marshall County, embodies the values and vision needed to lead Alabama’s agricultural future. “His deep, hands-on experience in both farming and food retail uniquely positions him to champion policies that strengthen food security, support small producers, and enhance rural economic development,” the AGA said.
“Corey Hill understands the full spectrum of Alabama agriculture — from the farm to fork,” said Ellie Taylor, president of the Alabama Grocers Association. “As a grocer, Corey has firsthand knowledge of the challenges our independent retailers face, and as a farmer, he lives the realities of rural agriculture every day. We are confident he will be a powerful voice for our industry and for communities across the state.”
Hill’s work in Douglas has demonstrated his ability to bring people together and drive results, the Association said. “As mayor, he has spearheaded initiatives to expand infrastructure, support local businesses, and preserve the rural character of his community.” On his family-run farm, he raises cattle and poultry with a focus on sustainability and stewardship — principles he pledges to bring to state leadership.
In accepting the endorsement, Hill expressed his gratitude: “I’m honored to have the support of the Alabama Grocers Association — an organization that has stood by our state’s independent retailers and rural communities. Together, we can build a future where Alabama agriculture thrives at every level.”
The grocery industry is a major driver of Alabama’s economy, providing more than 188,000 jobs, paying over $6.8 billion in annual wages, and contributing over $1.5 billion in state taxes. The industry’s total economic impact exceeds $18 billion annually.
The Alabama Grocers Association is a state trade association representing the grocery retail industry since 1990. With more than 135 retail members operating more than 850 stores, as well as over 225 manufacturers, brokers, wholesalers, and other industry partners, the AGA serves as the voice of Alabama’s grocery industry.
