Electric vehicles will be displayed at two upcoming events in Mobile area

Owners will be available for one-on-one conversations with anyone interested in learning more about EVs.

Members of the Bay Area Chapter of Drive Electric Alabama have two upcoming events designed to bring EV owners together with anyone interested in learning more about EVs. The Bay Area Chapter will showcase a variety of electric vehicles at two free events — on Saturday, August 30, at Love’s Travel Stop in Irvington and Saturday, September 20, at the Son of a Sailor Fest in downtown Mobile.

At both EV showcase events, owners will be available for one-on-one conversations with anyone interested in learning more about EVs.

“Most Alabamians have never driven an EV, so they have questions, and the best way to get honest answers is to talk to a real-life EV owner,” said Henry Brewster, a leader with the Bay Area Chapter of Drive Electric Alabama. “How far can you go on a full charge? Where do you charge and how much does it cost? I hear those all the time. I encourage anyone who wants to get answers to those questions, or maybe others, to attend one or both of these EV showcases in the Mobile area to learn more about EV affordability, technology and range.”

Many auto manufacturers are working to alert potential EV owners that the federal tax credits for new and used EVs end September 30. Organizers say that’s another reason people should attend Saturday’s EV showcase in Irvington.

It’s also important to know that EV owners who are Alabama Power customers can access additional savings, including a discounted rate on all electricity during overnight hours and a $500 rebate for the installation of an in-home charger, Drive Electric Alabama shared.

“It’s crystal clear that there’s no better way to learn about driving electric than to talk to EV owners,” said Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition President Michael Staley, who drives an all-electric, full-sized Chevy pick-up truck. “We aim to make as many EV models as possible available at our showcase events. We invite anyone to come out to kick the tires and talk to EV owners about their personal experiences.”

The Bay Area Chapter of Drive Electric Alabama recently held a successful EV showcase at Greer’s Market on St. Louis Street in Mobile.

“We want to keep the momentum going here in south Alabama, and we hope to see a lot of people at the two upcoming EV showcases,” Brewster said.
