Mayor Steven Reed to represent Montgomery at Global Smart City Expo in Barcelona

Reed will join a U.S. delegation at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona, engaging in discussions on urban innovation and inclusive city-building.

Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed will join a U.S. delegation of civic and innovation leaders at the 2025 Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, from November 3 to 6.

As part of the U.S. Mayoral Roundtable Delegation, Reed will represent Montgomery on the global stage, engaging in high-level discussions on the future of urban innovation, artificial intelligence and inclusive city-building.

The U.S. delegation includes:

  • Mayor Jane Castor – Tampa, FL
  • Mayor Bryan Barnett – Rochester Hills, MI
  • Mayor Steven L. Reed – Montgomery, Ala.
  • Sumana Nallapati – Chief AI and Information Officer, City and County of Denver
  • Miguel Sangalang – Executive Director, City of Los Angeles
  • John Roberson – Executive Vice President, Obama Presidential Center
  • George Burciaga – Managing Partner, The U.S. Roundtable

Reed will participate in several key sessions, including the “Mayors Unscripted” panel, where he will join fellow U.S. and European leaders to discuss people-first governance in the age of AI. He will also take part in the U.S. Mayoral Global Roundtable, focusing on how cities can responsibly integrate AI to improve services, safety and equity.

“This is more than a conference—it’s a platform for Montgomery to be seen, heard, and recognized as a forward-thinking city,” Reed said. “We’re here to build relationships, attract investment, and bring home ideas that will shape a smarter, more inclusive future for our residents.”

The Smart City Expo World Congress is the world’s largest and most influential event for urban innovation, convening more than 25,000 global leaders and representatives from over 850 cities across 135 countries. The event brings together mayors, technologists and policymakers to explore how cities can thrive in the 21st century through innovation, sustainability and human-centered design.
