The Alabama Farmers Federation announced Tuesday its endorsement of Representative Mike Kirkland for House District 23 in Jackson County.

“Mike Kirkland is a conservative who has represented us well in Montgomery and at home,” said Phillip Thompson, president of the Jackson County Farmers Federation. “We appreciate his service and are proud to support his re-election.”

While working full time in a textile mill, Kirkland received his associate’s degree from Northeast Alabama Community College. He later received a B.A. from Athens State University and an M.B.A. from the University of North Alabama.

Kirkland has worked in various capacities for 38 years at Vulcan Materials. He has also been involved in multiple civic and charitable organizations.

“I am proud to receive the endorsement of the Farmers Federation and look forward to working with them on issues that affect agriculture and businesses in this district,” said Kirkland. “They are a fine group of people, and I am proud to receive their support.”

Kirkland and his wife, Pamela, have two children and three grandchildren. They are members of Center Point Baptist Church in Scottsboro.

The Alabama Farmers Federation is the state’s largest farm organization with more than 360,000 member families. It uses a grassroots approach to select candidates, relying on Alabama FarmPAC endorsements from county Farmers Federation boards of directors for local elections.
