Sen. Britt requests DOT funding to complete I-10 Mobile bridge project

Senator Katie Britt urged the Transportation Secretary to resolve remaining obstacles, pushing the complex Mobile River Bridge project toward construction.

Mobile River Bridge and Bayway

U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-Alabama, sent a letter Monday to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy highlighting the I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project and requesting the Department’s continued partnership in seeing this project completed.

“As you know, this is a large and complex project, but importantly, it is the largest shovel-ready infrastructure project in the country. Advancing it would be a significant milestone in President Trump’s commitment to improving American infrastructure,” Britt wrote.

“After years of work on engineering, design, and financing, the project has reached a critical point of inflection before it can progress to construction and completion. Accordingly, I respectfully request your and the Department’s assistance in resolving the remaining obstacles so that the State can move forward and begin construction,” she said.

Britt continued: “To that end, I request your help in convening the right senior leadership and technical staff from the Department to meet with the relevant stakeholders from the State to assess feasibility, identify the best course of action, and determine next steps.”

Britt, who twice led the entire Alabama Congressional delegation in advocating on behalf of investing federal funds in this project, celebrated a $550 million investment in the project in 2024.

Last year, Britt applauded Duffy’s announcement finalizing the $550 million in federal funding. “This strategic investment is exactly how federal transportation and infrastructure funds should be spent, and I am proud we worked together to bring these Alabama taxpayer dollars home,” she stated in part.

Britt has repeatedly advocated for the I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project in the Senate and has received previous commitments from Secretary Duffy to prioritize this infrastructure project.
