The Food Bank of North Alabama is inviting the community to help fight hunger by participating in its annual Spread the Love peanut butter drive, running the entire month of February.
Peanut butter is one of FBNA’s most requested items. It is nutrient-rich, shelf-stable and requires no preparation, making it an ideal food for families, seniors and children facing food insecurity across North Alabama.
Throughout February, community members are encouraged by the Food Bank to donate unopened plastic jars of peanut butter or peanut butter alternatives, including almond butter, sunflower seed butter and soy butter.
Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Food Bank of North Alabama Distribution Center, 225 Finney Drive SW, Huntsville, Ala., 35824.
“Just one jar of peanut butter can help provide multiple meals for a family struggling with food insecurity,” said Bobby Bozeman, development director at the Food Bank of North Alabama. “This drive is a simple way for our community to come together and make a meaningful impact.”
Organizations are also encouraged to participate by hosting peanut butter drives. Offices, schools, churches and community groups can help multiply the impact by collecting donations together. A toolkit and support materials are available for groups interested in participating.
The Food Bank of North Alabama serves 11-counties, where more than 187,000 individuals struggle with insufficient access to nutritious meals. FBNA works with more than 230 partner agencies to distribute food to neighbors. Community support through drives like Spread the Love helps ensure nutritious food reaches families when they need it most.
