The political action committee of the Home Builders Association of Alabama, ABPAC, announced Tuesday it has endorsed Derek Chen in his campaign for Alabama State Auditor.
ABPAC stated it supports candidates who recognize the importance of a strong housing market, responsible government oversight, and policies that allow Alabama’s construction and housing industries to grow and meet the needs of communities across the state.
“Alabama needs leaders who take oversight seriously,” said Jeremy Wright, president of the Homebuilders Association of Alabama. “Derek Chen has been clear about the role of the State Auditor as an independent check on government spending, and we are confident he will work to protect taxpayers and support a healthy construction and housing market.”
ABPAC said Alabama’s ability to grow depends in part on a state government that is focused, disciplined and predictable with taxpayer dollars.
“State government doesn’t build homes, but it can certainly make them more expensive,” said Chen. “We’ve seen under the disastrous Biden administration how runaway spending, weak oversight, and bureaucrats can drive up costs across the economy, including the cost of building and owning a home.”
Chen has argued the responsibilities of the State Auditor’s office extend beyond paperwork and reports, with real consequences for families, workers, and small businesses across Alabama.
“Bad decisions in Montgomery don’t stay in Montgomery,” Chen added. “They show up in higher prices and fewer opportunities. I’m grateful for ABPAC’s endorsement and their confidence in my ability to root out waste, demand accountability, and protect Alabama taxpayers.”
