The Alabama Department of Transportation has hired Claudia Nichols as public information officer for the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project, expanding its communications team as the project moves into full construction.

Based in Mobile, Nichols will serve as a frontline media contact and work on media relations, public information, stakeholder outreach and day-to-day project communications throughout construction.

Nichols joins ALDOT’s Communications Bureau and will work as part of the communications team led by Tony Harris, chief of communications and government relations.

“Moving into full construction creates a much greater need for timely, accessible information in Mobile,” Harris said. “Claudia gives us a dedicated communications presence on the ground and an experienced local presence who can work directly with the news media, stakeholders and community. We’re very pleased to have her on our team.”

Nichols brings a background in television news and has spent much of her early career covering Baldwin and Mobile counties as a reporter for Fox10 News. ALDOT said her work has given her strong familiarity with the region, its communities and the local news media.

She will work closely with ALDOT’s Communications Bureau, Southwest Region and the Mobile River Bridge project team, the department said.
