Senator’s Fiancée Represented in Lawsuit By His Consultant

MONTGOMERY—Sen. Tom Whatley’s (R-Auburn) fiancée, Lindsey Waits, is involved in a lawsuit with Wells Fargo over a property dispute that involves the Tuscaloosa home she leased in 2012. Waits is represented by a Fairhope-based attorney, who Whatley lists as a consultant on his campaign finance report.

Waits is being represented by attorney Darrell Wayne Grimsley, Jr., who began working on her case in April 2014.

According to FCPA reports, Whatley paid Grimsley $15,427.62 for “consulting” from his Senate campaign account, from January-December 2015.

Waits’ case is still pending before Judge John H. England. Judge England is the father of Rep. Chris England.

Whatley was arrested for domestic violence in December 2014, when Auburn police officers alleged he assaulted Waits.

The charges against Whatley were later dropped, despite the arresting officers’ account of the events.

Whatley’s FCPA report for last year listed around $34,000 in non-itemized expenditures.
