Judge Moore and Who Else?

The Roy Moore campaign released a written statement to announce that FARMPAC the political action committee (PAC) of the Alabama Farmers Federation has endorsed Republican former Chief Justice Roy Moore (R) from Gallant for Chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.

The organization’s endorsements are recommended by the FarmPAC Advisory Trustees and are confirmed by the FarmPAC Executive Committee.

Alabama Farmers Federation President Jerry Newby said, “Judge Moore grew up on a farm and understands hard work. He served our nation honorably as an officer in the U.S. Army and has experience in all phases of the judicial system from defense attorney and prosecutor to circuit judge and chief justice.  Judge Moore has proven he is a man of principle who will stand up for what’s right even in the face of harsh opposition.”  Pres. Newby said that Moore’s rural background, judicial experience and firm values make him a strong candidate for chief justice.

Judge Moore stated, “While I don’t accept PAC contributions, I do appreciate and accept their support and endorsement.  I have the highest regard for the agricultural and farming industry of Alabama.”

This is the second major endorsement for the Judge Moore Campaign this week.  On Monday, the historically Democratic Party aligned Alabama AFL-CIO urged their members to split their November 6th General Election ballot and vote for Republican Roy Moore in the Chief Justice race.

According to reporting by the Associated Press, State AFL-CIO President Al Henley said Monday that Judge Moore has a record both as a circuit judge and as a Supreme Court justice of ruling fairly and not being controlled by any corporate interests.  Judge Moore was the only Republican endorsed by the union at its convention Monday.

Moore’s Democratic Party opponent, Harry Lyon, is best known for his many failed candidacies (both as a Republican and as a Democrat) and for being the victim of two separate shootings.

Mr. Lyon may not even be on the ballot.  A Huntsville woman, Sherry Broyles, is petitioning the Democratic Party to remove Mr. Lyon from the November ballot for not filing required campaign finance reports to the Alabama Secretary of State’s office.

Democratic Party Chairman Mark Kennedy said in a written statement, “The allegations made against Mr. Lyon are serious. We assure Alabama Democrats and voters across the state that we are taking the allegations seriously and have already begun the process of ensuring they are reviewed in a thorough, proper, and timely manner. The law is the law and it is important, in our judicial races above all others, that our candidates respect and follow it.”  If the Democrats were to disqualify their only statewide judicial candidate to they could then handpick a candidate to face Roy Moore on November 6th.

According to reporting by Associated Press Reporter Phillip Rawls, Ms. Broyle has similarly asked the Republican Party to disqualify Supreme Court incumbent candidates Jim Main, Lyn Stewart and Glen Murdock as well as Civil Appeals Court incumbents Craig Pittman, Terri Thomas and Terry Moore and Criminal Appeals Court incumbents Sam Welch and Michael Joiner.  Republican Party Chairman Armistead has rejected those petitions.
