Palmer Opposes Iran Deal

Thursday, August 8, US Representative Gary Palmer (R-Hoover), spoke to the Republican Women of Trussville about America’s pending deal with Iran, and the State of the Nation.

Congressman Palmer said that Secretary of State John Kerry, has the negotiating skills of Neville Chamberlain. For those of you too young to remember,  Neville Chamberlain was the British Prime Minister who negotiated a treaty with Adolph Hitler, requiring that Czechoslovakia hand over the Sudetenland to Germany promising, “Peace in our time.” A few months later, the Germans were invading the rest of Czechoslovakia.

Rep. Palmer said, that our fight is not with the people of Iran, who are actually the most pro-Western people in the Islamic Middle East, but rather, with their extremist government. In 2009, when the people of Iran rose up against their government, they were literally shot down in the streets. Our country, under the Administration of President Obama did nothing.

Palmer said, that when President Obama compared us (who oppose the deal) to the people in Iran who shout “Death to America,” he knew it was a bad deal.

Congressman Palmer said, that he has read the whole deal, and it is a bad deal.  The deal allows Iran to develop ICBM (InterContinental Ballistic Missile) technology.  Rep. Palmer said, that Iran does not need ICBMs to hit Israel.  They need them to hit us.

Palmer said, that freeing the Americans who are being held prisoner in Iran, never came up in the negotiations.  Why did the Administration not bring the deal up?  Iran brought up access to conventional weapons technology.

Also on Thursday, August 6, Congressman Palmer signed a letter, along with 93 other members of Congress, sent to President Obama, requesting the text of the “side deals” made between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Iranian Government as part of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), otherwise known as the “Iran Deal.”

Rep. Palmer said, “Voting on this agreement may be one of the most important votes Congress makes in a generation.  Congress has a legal right to these side agreements, and to have all of its questions about this agreement answered before it comes up for a vote.”

Palmer and the other members of the Congress requested the text of the two deals as expeditiously as possible, and wrote that the Iran deal is a matter of immense importance to the immediate, and long term security of the United States.

Rep. Palmer said, that he has spoken with Israeli officials, and they do not like the deal.  He has also talked with Egyptian officials, and they are opposed to the deal.  Palmer said, that if Iran builds an atomic bomb, so will Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey. The whole Middle East will become nuclear powers.

The Trussville Republican Women’s Club meets on the first Thursday of each month.

Congressman Gary Palmer represents Alabama’s Sixth Congressional District.
