Fisher running for Senate

By Brandon Moseley
Alabama Political Reporter

On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, businessman Jason E. Fisher announced that he will be running as a Democratic Party Candidate for the United States Senate seat left vacant when Jeff Sessions was confirmed by the Senate as US Attorney General. Jason Fisher is the Vice President & Senior Consultant at Ruffalo Noel Levitz, a direct marketing company specializing in education-based philanthropy and enrollment management services. Mr. Fisher is a Democrat from Orange Beach.

Fisher said in a statement, “The people of Alabama have lost confidence in their elected officials. The continued political scandals and government corruption have damaged the reputation of our State. We do not need another Senator who provides a rubber stamp to the proposed policies and actions of the Executive Branch. We need a leader who will listen to all citizens of our state and be responsive to the challenges faced by those who do not have a powerful lobby advocating for them in Washington. Jason Fisher is dedicated to restoring integrity and reasonable debate in government and is running to create a more prosperous future for our citizens.”

Fisher continued, “Alabamians need effective policies that once again open economic opportunity to the middle class, secure the availability of quality, affordable health care for every citizen, and promote real family values. We must protect our most vulnerable citizens from discriminatory insurance practices, particularly those with pre-existing conditions, disabilities, and our seniors.”

Fisher added, “In this critical time, we cannot afford to let our politicians divide us into groups and subgroups for the sole purpose of winning elections. We need a new leader with vision who inspires our State with real solutions to the problems we face, instead of using the same tired rhetoric of slash and burn politics.”

Jason Fisher received his Bachelor’s degree in business and political science from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Fisher also has a Master’s degree in public service from the Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas. Mr. Fisher is the former Executive Director and Vice President of Public Relations for The Chromosome 18 Registry & Research Society, an advocacy and genetic research organization.

Fisher will run in the Special Democratic Party Primary on August 15, 2017. If necessary, the Special Democratic Party Primary run-off election will be held on September 26, 2017. He will face Clinton era US Attorney Doug Jones and Robert Kennedy, Jr. The General Election is set for December 12, 2017.
