New unemployment claims increased last week

There were 8,764 new unemployment claims filed in Alabama last week, up from 7,060 the previous week.

There were 8,764 new unemployment claims filed in Alabama last week, up from 7,060 the previous week, according to the Alabama Department of Labor. 

Of the claims filed between Nov. 1 and Nov. 7, there were 3,328, or 38 percent, that were COVID-19 related. That percentage is down from 50 percent the previous week.
