Sewell will bring together officials from local colleges and universities—and the U.S. Department of Education.

STOCK

Today, Tuesday, September 20 at 6:30 p.m. CT, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, AL-07, will host her first-ever Virtual Grants Workshop for Scholarships and Higher Education. Each year, Rep. Sewell hosts a series of grants workshops to assist local officials and organizations in accessing funding available to them. During tomorrow’s workshop, Sewell will bring together officials from local colleges and universities—and the U.S. Department of Education—to help students and families better understand the financial resources available to pursue a higher education. It will be streamed live on Sewell’s official Facebook and YouTube pages.

Since coming to Congress, Rep. Sewell has worked to secure hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for Alabama’s colleges and universities to help students afford higher education and keep them on track to graduate. As the only member of the Alabama delegation to vote in favor of the American Rescue Plan, she recently helped secure nearly $800 million for Alabama’s colleges and universities, half of which is being used to provide direct financial relief to students. With the cost of higher education on the rise, it is more critical than ever that students, parents, educators, and administrators know how to access this assistance. Today’s workshop “reflects Sewell’s commitment to ensuring that every student has the resources and opportunities needed to reach their God-given potential.”

The workshop will feature guests from institutions of higher education in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District as well as the U.S. Department of Education. Each guest will present about the scholarships and financial assistance available at their respective institutions. Joining Sewell will be:

  • Dr. Jarralynne Agee, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Miles College
  • Dr. Glenn King, Jr., Director of Community Relations at Wallace Community College Selma
  • B. Marie Jones, Director of Minority Outreach at Wallace Community College Selma
  • Lauren Tancock, Associate Director for Undergraduate Scholarships at the University of Alabama at Birmingham
  • Isaiah Ellis, Outreach Specialist for the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid Division
