A political action committee started by a sitting Alabama House member will launch an ad campaign this week encouraging straight-ticket voting.
Rep. Scott Stadthagen’s StackPAC will begin airing the ads, encouraging Republican voters to “take five seconds” to fill in the bubble at the top of ballots to vote straight-ticket Republican. The ads will run air on radio stations, digital channels, podcasts and social media platforms encouraging straight-ticket voting.
Doing so means that voters wouldn’t take the time to research candidates and issues that might be important to them and their families, but would instead choose to have a specific party’s candidates – no matter how qualified or unqualified – receive their vote in every race. The number of states offering straight-ticket voting has been declining rapidly in recent years, and Alabama is one of just six states currently offering the option.
Still, Stadthagen, a Republican from Hartselle, believes the practice to be necessary now.
“I want to make sure that conservative Republican voters across the state realize how important their vote is on November 8,” Stadthagen said in a statement. “This country is at a crossroads and we need every Republican to go and vote. It takes less than (five) seconds to fill out the bubble next to Alabama Republican Party at the top of your ballot. That is all you have to do to vote a straight ticket ballot. That is (five) seconds we cannot afford to miss.”
The ads will run through Election Day on Nov. 8.
