One person dies, 4 arrested at ADOC facilities over the weekend

Several arrests were made over the weekend of individuals promoting contraband.

Over the weekend, another incarcerated individual died in prison while the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) arrested four people on contraband charges.

Dameyune Jemison died Monday morning at Fountain Correctional Facility. Jemison was 25 or 26 years old and according to a source was moved from a work release center just four days before his passing. ADOC confirmed Jemison’s death and said the Law Enforcement Services Division was investigating. 

“On Monday, April 1, 2024, an inmate death was reported at Fountain Correctional Facility,” ADOC said. “Inmate Dameyune Deshawn Jemison was found unresponsive on his bed. He was taken to Health Care Unit where lifesaving measures were performed. Medical staff was unable to resuscitate him, and he was pronounced deceased by the attending physician.”

ADOC also announced that several arrests were made over the weekend of individuals promoting contraband.

On Friday, March 29, 2024, ADOC and LESD arrested a security staff member at Bullock Correctional Facility. Essence Fiera Woods, was transported to the Bullock County Jail and charged with Promoting Prison Contraband III.

On Monday, April 1, 2024, two trespassers were reported at Limestone Correctional Facility. ADOC and LESD arrested Zavian Belle and Rodrick Hall near the facility and found six packages. Belle and Hall were transported to the Limestone County Detention Center and charged with Promoting Prison Contraband I.

On Sunday, March 31, 2024, a trespasser was reported at Easterling Correctional Facility carrying a backpack. K-9 Bureau and Barbour County Deputies with ADOC and LESD located and arrested a suspect nearby the facility  the backpack was recovered later. Jaquan Lee was the apparent trespasser and was transported to the Barbour County Jail and charged with Promoting Prison Contraband I and Trespassing.
