As the new year approaches, the City of Montgomery is calling on compassionate individuals to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children by joining the Foster Grandparents Program. This unique initiative, supported by AmeriCorps Seniors, connects volunteers aged 55 and older with children who benefit from guidance, support, and encouragement.
The program provides seniors the opportunity to serve as mentors, tutors, and role models, helping children build confidence and develop the skills needed to thrive. Volunteers can experience the joy of making a positive impact while forming lasting relationships with young people and fellow participants.
To learn more about the program, interested individuals are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, January 7, at 1 p.m. at 25 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, AL 36104. Participation in the program offers benefits such as tax-free stipends for eligible volunteers, paid training to prepare for their roles, and opportunities to build lasting connections within the community.
Open to seniors aged 55 and older who meet income eligibility requirements, the program requires no prior experience—just a passion for helping children succeed. Funded in part by a $127,775 award from AmeriCorps Seniors, the Foster Grandparents Program is a federally supported initiative designed to improve educational outcomes and provide emotional support for children. Operated by the City of Montgomery, it also creates meaningful opportunities for seniors to stay engaged in their communities.
