Rep. Sewell’s statement on President Trump’s sweeping tariff announcement

U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, AL-07, Wednesday released the following statement in response to President Trump’s sweeping tariff announcement and trade war escalation:

“Trump’s tariffs amount to the largest tax increase on families in American history. They are bad for consumers who will see prices skyrocket. They are bad for Alabama farmers who will face retaliatory tariffs. And they are bad for Alabama manufacturers who depend on complex global supply chains to make products like automobiles. Trump should abandon his reckless trade policies before he devastates the American economy.”

During President Trump’s first term, Rep. Sewell led three bipartisan letters warning against the devastating impact that Auto 232 tariffs would have on Alabama and the entire economy.

Sewell represents Alabama’s 7th Congressional District.
