Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones will hold a Community Dialogue event in Daphne on Sunday, May 18, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Daphne Cowork. The event is free and open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Moderated by Jason Fisher—a 2017 U.S. Senate candidate and former staffer to Senator Jones—the town hall-style gathering aims to foster civil, fact-based discussion across party lines. The format will include a question-and-answer session designed to provide attendees with insight into the workings of federal government and the current political climate.
Jones, a former U.S. Attorney and the first Democrat elected to represent Alabama in the U.S. Senate in 25 years, served from 2018 to 2021 after winning the state’s 2017 special election. During his tenure, he sponsored or co-sponsored over two dozen bipartisan bills that became law and received the 2020 Jefferson-Hamilton Award for Bipartisanship from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Fisher emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue in light of today’s polarized political environment.
“The sweeping changes at the federal level proposed by this administration are unprecedented,” Fisher said. “These deep budget cuts will be felt across the political spectrum—from disaster response and weather research to funding for public school education. That’s led to considerable fear and confusion.”
He added, “Right now, in a time of considerable angst and a lack of transparency about how these decisions are being made, we need our leaders to make themselves readily available to folks in Baldwin County and across Alabama.”
Doors for the event will open at 4:45 p.m., and no RSVP is required. Senator Jones will be available to take questions from the media following the conclusion of the event.
