The Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama endorsed Matt Woods for Senate District 5 on Tuesday. Governor Ivey called the special election for June 24, following her appointment of former State Senator Greg Reed to her administration.

Following the endorsement, ABC Board Chairman Tim Harrison said, “Matt is a businessman. He understands what it means to sign the back of a check. We need business-minded leaders in Montgomery who are dedicated to reducing red tape, incentivizing growth, and enhancing workforce development. Matt has a proven track record on these issues, and that is why we are endorsing him today.”

Matt Woods is a lifelong resident of Senate District 5 and graduated from Oakman High School in 2000. He attended Bevill State Community College and Auburn University before returning to Walker County to join his family business. He has served District 13 in the Alabama House since 2022.

“The Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama does a first-class job representing construction professionals in our state, and having their support shows that our message is truly resonating,” said Matt Woods. “Alabama’s commercial construction industry has an annual economic impact of $17 billion, and I’m excited to collaborate with ABC of Alabama to continue moving the construction industry and our state forward.”

Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama represents the state’s construction industry, which creates 200,000 jobs and accounts for 5 percent of the state’s economic output.
