The following statement was released by Gov. Kay Ivey and her office on Wednesday:
As Governor Ivey signed the last of the bills on her desk today, the 2025 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature is officially a wrap! This Session, the Legislature introduced close to 1,500 pieces of legislation. In total, Governor Ivey signed 287 bills into law and 147 resolutions. Every one of the bills the governor authored were passed and signed into law.
Governor Ivey had an impressive legislative session, and she was able to deliver several wins for Alabamians.Â
- With the very first bill she signed into law this Session, the What is a Woman bill, she further protected our Alabama family values.
- At the governor’s state of the state address, she highlighted Army veteran Jae Barclay who endured unimaginable circumstances and stated we had to better serve veterans like him. With the Legislature, she signed into law legislation that transforms how our state government serves veterans and their families.
- She championed the bill to provide long-overdue paid parental leave for our teachers and state workers.
- Working with the budget chairmen, the governor wisely invested in core functions of government and our students’ education.
- The governor established more tools for our officials in Baldwin and Mobile counties to protect our Gulf of America visitors.
- Governor Ivey continued to provide tax relief for Alabamians.
- The governor took even more steps to crack down on illegal immigration and strengthened our elections.
- With the FOCUS Act, Governor Ivey led efforts to create the best learning environment for our students.
- Going into the Session, Governor Ivey stated bolstering public safety would be her number one priority, and in working with legislators on both sides of the aisle, she signed into law several bills to do just that.
And on the last day of Session, as the Safe Alabama public safety package rounded out in the Legislature, the Senate took up and voted on her priority bill, the Back the Blue bill, and then the House members stayed in Montgomery for hours to simply get it to her desk as she called for. Governor Ivey continues to get important and meaningful work done for the people who call Alabama home. And she’s not done yet!
