April Myers Williams announces candidacy for Birmingham City Council

Former Birmingham City Schools Board member, April Myers Williams, has officially announced her candidacy for the Birmingham City Council, District 8 seat.

With a strong commitment to education, community  investment, and responsive leadership, Williams aims to deliver bold solutions oriented governance to the residents of District 8,” her release shared.

April Myers Williams says she is no stranger to public service. While on the Birmingham City Schools Board representing District 8, she “championed policies focused on student equity, teacher support, parental engagement, and resource management. Her track record of inclusive leadership, fiscal responsibility, and community advocacy has made her a trusted voice for progress in Birmingham,” her release described.

“First and foremost, I am a servant and I’m offering myself for service to the residents of District 8 as their representative on the Birmingham City Council. My campaign will focus on People-Purpose-Progress — a platform centered on neighborhood revitalization, economic opportunity, infrastructure investment, safe and thriving neighbors, and stakeholders’ engagement,” Williams said.

As a mother, community leader and longtime resident of District 8, April Myers Williams says she combines personal experience with a vision for community renewal and growth. Williams says her candidacy represents a new chapter in District 8, characterized by transparency, action and collaboration.

Williams will host meet-the-candidate forums throughout District 8. The first forum was held last weekend on June 14. “All are welcome to enjoy food, music, and a message of unity and progress as the community gathers to support a brighter future for District 8,” Williams’ release shared.

The election will take place on Aug. 26, 2025.
