Sen. Britt, colleagues introduce resolution condemning antisemitic violence

Senators introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning a rise in antisemitism.

Senator Katie Britt, R-Alabama, on Monday joined Senators John Fetterman, Dave McCormick and several of their Senate colleagues in introducing S. Res. 288, a bipartisan resolution condemning the rise in antisemitic attacks across the country.

“Given the disturbing rise in antisemitism at home and across the globe, I believe it is incumbent upon Congress to continue sending a resounding message that the United States denounces this unacceptable discrimination. Antisemitism has no place in our country—full stop,” said Sen. Britt. “As these shocking and deliberate attacks spread to more communities, we have a moral obligation to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Jewish brothers and sisters. I’m grateful to my colleagues on both sides of the aisle who are committed to confronting antisemitism.”

Citing the assault in Boulder, Colorado, the arson attack on the Pennsylvania Governor’s residence, and the murder of two Israeli embassy staffers outside the Capitol Jewish Museum, the Senators remained unified in denouncing antisemitic hatred.

“Amid a despicable rise in antisemitism, including the hateful arson at Governor Shapiro’s home in Pennsylvania, the shocking violence in Boulder, and the deadly attack on the Israeli embassy staff in D.C., we are starkly reminded that silence is complicity. These appalling attacks on our Jewish communities are not isolated events. After eleven lives were stolen at the Tree of Life massacre in 2018, I’ve felt an even stronger moral obligation to confront antisemitism wherever it appears and stand united against hate,” said Senator Fetterman.

“Antisemitism has no place in America,” said Senator McCormick. “Since October 7, 2023, the Jewish community has faced unprecedented and persistent antisemitic hate and violence. This hatred cannot stand. Living in Squirrel Hill, right around the corner from the site of the devastating Tree of Life Synagogue attack in 2018, really brings this issue home for me. Protecting my friends and neighbors, and all Jewish people across the country, must be a national priority. I’m proud to team up with Senator Fetterman, and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, to unequivocally condemn the alarming surge in antisemitic hate across the country.”

Senator Britt said she has long highlighted the disturbing rise in antisemitism at home and across the globe, recently penning an op-ed on the escalating threat of antisemitism. “These attacks are not isolated — they are part of a dangerous and growing trend that endangers the safety, dignity, and freedom of Jewish Americans. Antisemitism is a clear and present threat to America’s Jewish community, and it’s been on the rise for years,” the Senator wrote.

This year, she also joined Senator Tim Scott, R-South Carolina, and several of her colleagues in reintroducing the Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act, which would rescind federal funding from colleges and universities that encourage antisemitism or facilitate antisemitic events on campus. “Any American educational institution authorizing, facilitating, or otherwise supporting pro-terrorism activities should lose every cent of federal funding and subsidization,” stated Sen. Britt on introduction.

Sen. Britt also reintroduced the Antisemitism Awareness Act, which directs the Department of Education to use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism when investigating antisemitic acts on campus.
