The association said Williams’ sponsorship of a bill improving timber hauling efficiency demonstrated his commitment to Alabama’s vital forest industry.

The Alabama Forestry Association (AFA) has announced its endorsement of State Senator Jack Williams for Alabama’s next commissioner of agriculture and industries, citing his consistent support for the forest industry and rural communities.

Williams, who has represented Senate District 34 since 2018, currently serves as vice chair of the Senate Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee and the Banking and Insurance Committee. His district includes a portion of Mobile County. Before joining the Senate, Williams served one term in the Alabama House of Representatives.

“Jack has distinguished himself as a champion for rural communities in Alabama,” said Chris Isaacson, AFA president and CEO. “He has demonstrated his commitment to the forestry community and we have seen how hard he is willing to fight for what is in our best interest. We are proud to support him to be the next Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries and look forward to partnering with him to continue to grow forestry’s impact in Alabama’s rural communities.”

In the most recent legislative session, Williams sponsored a bill aimed at improving the safety and efficiency of hauling timber to forest products mills—a move the AFA applauded as a step toward reducing regulatory burdens and increasing competitiveness for Alabama’s landowners, loggers, and forest product manufacturers.

“I really consider this an honor and am humbled to have been endorsed by the Alabama Forestry Association,” Williams said. “As a timber owner, I know the importance and the major impact that the timber industry has on our state, the jobs it creates, and the families it supports. I also understand the hardships that unwarranted regulations can have on this industry.”

He continued, “As the next Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, I will continue working to reduce and eliminate unnecessary regulations that hinder this business. When elected, I will continue to stand with our hardworking loggers, landowners, and timber manufacturers.”

Williams and his wife, Bobbie, own and operate a family-run farming operation with cattle, timber, and hay production, as well as a nursery business that ranks among the largest in the nation.
