The Alabama Republican Party announced Monday that George Williams of Baldwin County was elected to serve as the new chairman of the Alabama Minority GOP at the organization’s recent state meeting.

As a Vietnam veteran, retired DEA supervisory special agent and longtime conservative leader, the Party said Williams brings a wealth of experience to the position. He is a former senior vice chairman of the Alabama Republican Party—the second-highest ranking officer at the state level, and the first African-American to hold that position—and has served in numerous leadership roles within the Party over the past decade.

He currently sits on both the Alabama Republican State Executive Committee and the Baldwin County Republican Executive Committee, and is the longtime leader of the Minority GOP’s South Alabama chapter. In 2024, he served as an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention, representing Alabama’s Second Congressional District. Williams is also known to many across south Alabama as the host of The George Williams Show on FM Talk 106.5.

“I’m honored to take on this role and look forward to continuing our mission of outreach and engagement across every corner of the state,” said Williams. “The Minority GOP has always been about bringing real conservative solutions to communities that are too often overlooked or taken for granted. It’s time to move past the old political assumptions and focus on the issues that matter—public safety, education, jobs, and opportunity. The Alabama Republican Party is growing, and I’m proud to be part of that effort.”

ALGOP Chairman John Wahl praised Williams as a dedicated leader and major force in Alabama’s conservative minority community.

“George Williams is a man of integrity with exactly the kind of experience we need to help lead the State GOP—from his military service to his leadership in law enforcement,” said Wahl. “He’s a trusted voice for conservative values, and I’m excited to work alongside him as we grow the Minority GOP’s presence across Alabama.”
