Governor Kay Ivey has declared March 30 as “Doctors Day” and is asking Alabamians to thank physicians for their dedication, skill and compassion.

In a proclamation, Ivey said about 13,000 physicians are licensed to practice medicine in Alabama and that the doctor-patient relationship “remains the foundation of high-quality healthcare, allowing physicians to provide personalized care that helps physicians and patients make the best choices together.”

The proclamation also highlights the role physicians play in communities across Alabama.

The Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners thanked Ivey for the recognition.

“Alabama’s physicians are honored to serve our fellow citizens during some of the most critical moments of their lives. Being a physician is a calling to help and heal people,” Medical Association President Dr. Mark LeQuire said.

“Physicians understand the extraordinary responsibility we carry. Our decisions shape lives and guide families through uncertainty. We thank our patients for their trust and Ivey for recognizing Doctors Day,” Alabama Board of Medical Examiners Chairman Dr. Max Rogers said.
