The Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has reopened the Foster’s Ferry Public Boat Ramp on the Warrior River in Tuscaloosa County after major upgrades to its parking area. The facility is located approximately 10 miles southwest of Tuscaloosa just off U.S. Highway 43 in Fosters, Alabama.
The boat ramp was temporarily closed this April to repair and repave the parking lot to correct drainage issues. The entrance road to the boat ramp is currently being improved and repaved, and new security lights and a restroom will also be installed at the facility.
This is one of three recent boating access area improvement projects in Tuscaloosa County that have been completed or are currently in progress. A damaged launching slab at the Riverview Public Boat Ramp was replaced last fall and a new access pier will be installed at the facility in the coming months. The City of Tuscaloosa will repave the parking lot at Riverview after completion of the access pier. Additionally, work to replace the launching slab at the Moundville Public Boat Ramp is expected to begin during the fall of 2025.
The Foster’s Ferry renovation is a joint project of ADCNR and Tuscaloosa County. Funding for the project was obtained through the Sport Fish Restoration Program, which is supported through excise taxes on the sale of outboard motor fuel and fishing equipment and through the sale of Alabama fishing licenses. Additional funding was provided by Innovate Alabama, a statewide public-private partnership focused on entrepreneurship, technology and innovation with a mission to help businesses grow roots in Alabama. Tuscaloosa County provided the services and labor to repair, grade and repave the parking area. The county will also fund the construction of the restroom.
