Alabama organizations host community baby shower for local mothers in Montgomery

All attendees received diapers, wipes, sanitary napkins, books and other materials to support their child’s healthy growth and development.

On Saturday, Montgomery-area expectant mothers had the opportunity to meet directly with pediatricians and representatives from a range of local child and family health organizations during a Community Baby Shower at Bellingrath Middle School.

Saturday’s Montgomery Community Baby Shower was hosted by the Montgomery Education Foundation’s Bold Goals Campaign and the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Pages Over Pixels initiative.

Organizations that participated in the Baby Shower included Family Sunshine CenterFamily Guidance CenterGift of LifeMy Care Alabama Central and The Wellness Coalition, among others. These representatives and local pediatricians were on hand to answer questions and share information about maternal health, early childhood development, and family support services available to the new and expectant mothers, many of which are offered at no cost to families.

All attendees received diapers, wipes, sanitary napkins, books and other materials to support their child’s healthy growth and development. Mothers also had the opportunity to enroll in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children from birth to age five.

Montgomery Bold Goals is a Montgomery Education Foundation cradle-to-career collective impact initiative focused on improving third-grade reading proficiency by increasing kindergarten readiness and removing the barriers to early grade reading that Montgomery children face.

Pages over Pixels is a campaign of the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics providing resources and strategies from Alabama pediatricians to help families limit their children’s screen time.
