Amy Hinton, Ph.D., an educator at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School for the Performing Arts in Montgomery, Alabama, will attend C-SPAN’s Summer Educators’ Conference to learn about the network’s free educational resources and how to incorporate the materials into their teaching practices. Hinton, a social studies teacher, is one of 30 middle and high school educators from across the nation selected to attend the conference from July 28–30.

The conference provides educators with the opportunity to explore the free curricular offerings that are available digitally by C-SPAN Classroom, including lesson plans, bell ringers, current events videos, Classroom Deliberations, On This Day in History events, Constitution Clips and StudentCam, C-SPAN’s annual documentary competition for students in grades 6–12.

Participants will also hear from speakers and discover how to search, clip and share videos from 300,000 hours in C-SPAN’s Video Library as they create engaging learning experiences for their students.

Participants were selected by a team of C-SPAN representatives and evaluated based on their commitment to learning about new educational resources, applying them in a classroom environment, and sharing their professional development experiences in their academic communities. C-SPAN provides round-trip travel to Washington, D.C., and hotel accommodations for the three-day professional development program.

“This conference provides a hands-on experience for participants to discover new tools to take back to their classrooms. As former teachers ourselves, our team is excited to see the innovative ways that each educator will implement our resources, as they connect and collaborate with one another,” said Craig McAndrew, C-SPAN director of Education Relations. “For over 20 years, C-SPAN has hosted conferences for educators, and we look forward to meeting and working with this year’s participants.”

Conference attendees will hear from several special guests, including CEO Sam Feist, about C-SPAN’s programs and operations.

The Summer Educators’ Conference is sponsored by C-SPAN’s Education Foundation, a charitable organization created by C-SPAN. C-SPAN Classroom is an entity of C-SPAN, which is primarily funded by America’s cable and satellite television companies as a commercial-free public service. In Montgomery, C-SPAN is available locally through Spectrum.
