Phillip Pettus announced Wednesday his candidacy for re-election to the Alabama House of Representatives in District 1.
“A Republican committed to the values of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and strong local communities, Pettus enters the race with a clear record of results and a bold vision for Alabama’s future,” Pettus’ release said.
“As your representative, I’ve fought to protect your hard-earned dollars and defend the conservative values that make our state strong,” said Pettus. “I’m proud of the work we’ve done, but there’s more to do—and I’m ready to continue delivering for the people of District 1.”
During his time in the Legislature, Pettus led reforms to safeguard taxpayers. He supported hundreds of millions in tax cuts for Alabama families, including the reduction of the state tax on groceries, the largest tax cut in Alabama history, his release shared.
A staunch supporter of President Donald Trump’s America First agenda, Pettus said he shares the president’s priorities of securing our nation’s borders, protecting American jobs, and putting families first. “I proudly support President Trump because he fights for the same values I do—faith, freedom, and fairness,” Pettus said.
Pettus said he made infrastructure a top priority, supporting investments in roads, bridges and broadband that have helped connect and revitalize communities across North Alabama.
“Our people deserve good roads, safe neighborhoods, and strong schools—and they deserve a government that does more with less,” said Pettus. “That’s what I’ve delivered, and that’s what I’ll keep fighting for.”
Phillip Pettus is a retired Alabama State Trooper and a longtime resident of Lauderdale County. He has served in the Alabama House of Representatives since 2014. A graduate of Rogers High School and the Alabama State Trooper Academy, Pettus said that he is a proud husband, father and grandfather who believes deeply in faith, service and family.
Pettus and his wife Mary are members of Atlas Church of Christ in Killen.
