Members of the Bay Area Chapter of Drive Electric Alabama will showcase a variety of electric vehicles on Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greer’s Market, located at 260 St. Louis Street, in Mobile.

EV owners will be available for one-on-one conversations with anyone interested in learning more about EVs. Photographers and videographers are invited to attend the event, which is free and open to the public.

Members of the Bay Area Chapter will show off a wide selection of EV makes and models and offer information about EV technology, range, affordability and what it’s like to drive electric on a daily basis.

“There’s no better way to learn what it’s like to drive electric than to talk to a of real-life EV owner,” said Henry Brewster, a leader with the Bay Area Chapter of Drive Electric Alabama who helped plan Saturday’s EVent. “We hope to see a big crowd Saturday.”

There are approximately 15,000 EVs registered in Alabama, and all-electric vehicles make up about 8 percent of all new vehicle sales in the United States, according to Edmunds. EV owners who are Alabama Power customers can access other savings, including a discounted rate on all electricity during overnight hours and a $500 rebate for the installation of an in-home charger.

The federal tax credits for new and used EVs end September 30, prompting many automakers to encourage consumers to take advantage before they disappear.
