Ahead of the Mobile mayoral runoff election, the DNC announced a new organizing initiative to supercharge GOTV efforts in hopes to push Democratic State Representative Barbara Drummond across the finish line to victory. DNC officials believe Republicans’ “deeply unpopular, extreme agenda” is leaving Alabama families struggling to afford basic necessities, and they’re ready to demand change at the ballot box. The DNC is supporting the mobilization of Alabama voters and ensuring they know about the Democratic leader on the ballot.
Through the geotargeting and identification of persuadable voters via the DNC’s data and analytics team, the DNC’s organizing team will send out texts and make calls to thousands of Mobile voters to rally behind Drummond and in hopes that Democrats can claim victory in the mayoral race.
“The DNC is proud to support state Rep. Barbara Drummond and Alabama Democrats with their GOTV efforts to win the crucial Mobile, Alabama, mayoral election next week,” said DNC Chair Ken Martin. “My mantra as DNC Chair is ‘organizing everywhere to win anywhere’ — and that’s exactly what we’re doing in Mobile. Democrats are laying the groundwork to ensure working Alabamians have a strong Democratic leader in their corner who will fight to expand economic opportunities, invest in education, and ensure Mobilians have access to quality health care.”
Drummond finished first in the August 26 mayoral election with about 32 percent of the vote, followed by former District Judge Spiro Cheriogotis, a Republican, with 28 percent of the vote. The first round of voting eliminated candidates Paul Prine and Connie Hudson from contention for the seat.
The runoff is just five days away on Tuesday, September 23. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
