Following a series of violent incidents in Montgomery over the weekend, Mayor Steven L. Reed issued a statement calling for accountability, responsibility and a collective commitment to peace.

“This weekend, our community was shaken by senseless acts of violence that claimed lives and left families grieving,” Reed said. “Every life lost to violence is one too many, and every wound inflicted leaves scars on our city as a whole. We cannot and will not accept violence as the answer to our differences.”

Reed stressed that conflict resolution begins with each individual choosing a different path.

“We all have a responsibility to reject violence and to seek peaceful solutions,” he said. “Whether in our homes, in our neighborhoods, or in our daily interactions, we must make the choice to resolve conflict without resorting to harm. This is not only a matter of public safety—it is a matter of human dignity and respect.”

The mayor affirmed that the Montgomery Police Department is actively investigating each case from the weekend and is committed to bringing justice to the victims and their families.

“Our police officers are working around the clock to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” Reed said. “Justice will be pursued for every victim, and support will be provided to every family affected. This work is not easy, but it is essential to healing and protecting our city.”

Reed concluded by urging the community to come together in support of nonviolence.
