Ahead of next week’s October 7 runoff election, Birmingham City Council District 4 candidate Brian Gunn is hosting a series of community events to rally support and get out the vote.
On Thursday, October 2, Gunn will be hosting a free “Community Fish Fry” event, followed by an ice cream social at First Memorial Baptist Church on Saturday, October 4, and a “Community Fun Day” on Sunday, October 5. According to his campaign, the events are a part of Gunn’s effort “to meet voters where they are, listen to their concerns, and share his vision for safer streets, thriving neighborhoods, and real change for District 4.”
Gunn’s campaign has been focused on grassroots mobilization, reportedly knocking on more than 7,000 doors and making over 5,000 phone calls to voters across District 4 ahead of next Tuesday’s runoff.
Gunn has also received key endorsements from his former District 4 opponents Joseph Holt and Darryl Williams, as well as Annie Ruth Broughton Gunn, widow of longtime District 4 Councilman Aldrich Gunn. Several organizations, including the Alabama College Democrats, the Alabama Cannabis Coalition, the Jefferson County Progressive Democratic Council, and Moms Demand Action, have also backed Gunn.
“This runoff is our chance to turn momentum into real change,” Gunn stated. “District 4 deserves safer streets, thriving neighborhoods, and a councilor who shows up year-round—not just at election time.”
Gunn’s policy platform is centered around improving public safety, investing in community development, strengthening small businesses, and increasing education and job training opportunities in District 4, according to his campaign website.
Gunn will face off against incumbent Councilmember J.T. Moore in next Tuesday’s runoff election.
