The Alabama Associated General Contractors traveled to the nation’s capital in September for AGC of America’s National Chapter and Leadership Conference, meeting with members of Congress and key federal decision‑makers to advocate for the needs of Alabama’s construction industry.
“Making this trip to Washington to visit with our elected leaders is one of the most important things we do for our members at Alabama AGC,” said Alabama AGC President Greer Walker, Wiregrass Construction. “Representing the 1,000 members and sharing the message from the industry is critically important to the future success of our business. We are proud to remind our Congressional Delegation of the value of construction in Alabama, and how it is such an indispensable part of the state’s economic engine.”
During the meetings in D.C., key topics focused on:
- Relief for the workforce shortage crisis
- Immigration reform, including proposals for a guest worker program to provide workforce relief
- Increased funding for Career and Technical Education aimed at strengthening the pipeline into construction trades
Alabama AGC leadership met with the following members of Alabama’s Congressional Delegation:
- Representative Gary Palmer, AL‑6
- Representative Robert Aderholt, AL‑4
- Representative Barry Moore, AL‑1
- Representative Dale Strong, AL‑5
- Senator Tommy Tuberville
- Senator Katie Britt
Alabama AGC shared that it will continue to work collaboratively with the congressional delegation and federal agencies to advance policies that support a thriving construction industry across the state. “This trip reaffirms the association’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that Alabama’s building and infrastructure sectors remain strong and globally competitive,” Alabama AGC said.
