The Alabama Farmers Federation announced Wednesday its endorsements of Rep. Reed Ingram for Alabama House District 75, which encompasses portions of Elmore and Montgomery counties, and of Rep. Jim Carns for Alabama House District 48, which covers portions of Jefferson and Shelby counties.
“Rep. Ingram is a hard-working conservative businessman and farmer who understands and can relate to our needs,” said Richard Edgar, president of the Elmore County Farmers Federation. “That is why we are proud to support him.”
Montgomery County Farmers Federation President Kathy Gordon praised Ingram’s record as an incumbent.Â
“Rep. Ingram is one of us. He has been there for us and has taken to heart our concerns and needs as farmers and as businesspeople,” Gordon said. “He is a conservative who is accessible and hard working. We look forward to supporting him again.”
Ingram was elected to the House of Representatives in 2014. He previously served on the Montgomery County Commission from 2004-2014. He serves as chairman of the House County and Municipal Government Committee and as a member of the House Agriculture and Forestry Committee.
“It is humbling to receive the endorsement of the Farmers Federation in this county and our state,” said Ingram. “They are a conservative group of people who work hard to help improve our community and our state, so I look forward to joining with them to do so.”
Brad Fuller, president of the Jefferson County Farmers Federation, said of Carns, “Rep. Carns is a long-time conservative businessman who knows firsthand what it takes to run a business. We are proud to continue our support of his candidacy.”
Shelby County farmers also praised Carns’ record of service.
“Rep. Carns is a conservative’s conservative who works hard for us in Shelby County, and it shows,” said Phillip Hunter, president of the Shelby County Farmers Federation. “We are proud to continue to give him our full support.”
Carns is a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and a graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. in engineering. He previously served on the Jefferson County Commission. Carns chairs the House Commerce and Small Business Committee, and he also chairs the Jefferson County House Delegation, the largest legislative delegation in the state.
“It is humbling to receive the endorsement of the Farmers Federation,” said Rep. Carns. “They are a conservative, hard-working group of people who constantly look for ways to enhance and improve our district. I am proud to join them in those efforts.”
The Alabama Farmers Federation is the state’s largest farm organization with more than 360,000 member families. It uses a grassroots approach to select candidates, relying on Alabama FarmPAC endorsements from county Federation boards of directors for local elections.
