The newly re-launched Montgomery River Region Chapter of the Alabama Minority GOP will host its official Kick-Off Reception on Friday, November 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The 1616 House in Montgomery.
The event will celebrate the achievements of Belinda Thomas—the first African American woman elected to the Newton City Council—in recognition her lifelong dedication to empowering minority farming communities across Alabama.
“Belinda Thomas represents exactly what strong, compassionate, conservative leadership looks like,” said Cedric Coley, chairman of the Montgomery River Region Minority GOP Chapter. “She has spent her life serving her community and opening doors for others, especially within Alabama’s farming and rural communities. Honoring her at our chapter’s kick-off event is the perfect way to celebrate the spirit of service and opportunity that the Alabama Minority GOP stands for.”
Coley also emphasized the importance of re-establishing a chapter in the state’s capital city. “Re-launching the Montgomery River Region Chapter is a powerful statement about who we are and what we believe,” Coley said. “This is the heart of Alabama’s political life, and it’s only fitting our capital city have a strong and active voice in the Alabama Minority GOP movement.”
The event will also feature State Representative Kenneth Paschal, Alabama Minority GOP State Chairman George Williams and Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl.
George Williams, state chairman of the Alabama Minority GOP, said the organization continues to see growth as more minority voters recognize that the Republican Party aligns with their values.
“Across Alabama, we’re seeing a growing number of minority voters who share our commitment to faith, family, and freedom,” Williams said. “Our goal is to build strong Minority GOP chapters in every corner of this state. People of every race and background should know they have a home in the Republican Party — a home built on shared values and opportunity for all.”
“We’re fighting for the issues that matter most to families — school choice and parental rights, so every child has access to a quality education; safer communities where parents don’t have to worry about violence on their streets; and greater opportunity through jobs and entrepreneurship. That’s what makes this movement so powerful and so necessary for Alabama’s future,” he continued.
The Alabama Minority GOP said that it exists to strengthen relationships between the Republican Party and minority communities by promoting engagement, representation, and conservative principles rooted in opportunity, empowerment and faith.
