Energy Southeast announced Monday the retirement of Lisa Miller, manager of external affairs, after “a long and distinguished 37-year career in public power and 19 years of dedicated service to Energy Southeast and its 11 member communities,” the agency announced.

Miller joined Energy Southeast in 2007 as director of communications. She advanced through key leadership roles, serving as manager of communications and marketing and manager of communications and economic development before assuming the role of manager of external affairs in 2024. In this role, she oversaw the agency’s communications and marketing initiatives, economic and community development programs, and governmental affairs activities.

Energy Southeast shared that, throughout her career, Miller has advocated for public power and built strong relationships with organizations, including the Alabama Department of Commerce, Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Business Council of Alabama, Economic Development Association of Alabama, Economic Development Partnership of Alabama, Auburn University Government and Economic Development Institute, Alabama League of Municipalities, Manufacture Alabama, Main Street Alabama, Alabama Communities of Excellence, Alabama Chambers and local chambers.

“She has been instrumental in supporting Energy Southeast’s Members and their economic development organizations, helping improve and promote vibrant, active, economically stable communities through programs such as the Energy Southeast Economic Development Grant Program and the Energy Southeast Capital Fund Program,” the agency wrote in a statement.

Her leadership has been recognized with many honors, including the Alabama Communities of Excellence Star Outstanding Leadership Award, Main Street Alabama’s Alice Bowsher Leadership Award, and numerous communications awards from national and statewide public power associations.

“Miller’s dedication, leadership, and passion for strengthening communities have left a lasting impact on the organization and its member communities,” the agency’s statement reads. “The Energy Southeast Board of Directors extends its best wishes to Miller upon her retirement and throughout the days ahead.”

A native of Alexander City, Miller holds a B.A. degree in public relations and journalism from Auburn University. She and her husband, Mike, reside in Prattville, where she has served on various boards and actively contributes to community life.
