Former Trump administration official and former Sen. Tommy Tuberville staffer Morgan Murphy reported raising $1,057,949 in his first quarter as a candidate for the U.S. Senate, giving him the largest opening fundraising haul in the race to succeed Tuberville.

Murphy officially entered the race on Oct. 1, 2025, and his campaign said the total includes contributions to both his campaign committee and his affiliated Victory Fund. According to the campaign, more than 10,000 donations were made by over 6,700 donors across all 50 states, with an average contribution of $69. A supermajority of the money, however, came from within Alabama.

In a statement announcing the fundraising total, Murphy cast his candidacy as a continuation of Tuberville’s hard-line alignment with former President Donald Trump.

“From Afghanistan to the White House and all points in between, the honor of my life has been serving our country,” Murphy said. “I’m proud to volunteer to serve again, this time to continue Senator Tuberville’s legacy as the strongest MAGA voice in the U.S. Senate.”

The campaign also released endorsements from several former Trump administration officials. K.T. McFarland, who served as Trump’s deputy national security advisor, said, “I backed Morgan early because I knew he’d be a powerhouse in Washington, It’s clear he has strong grassroots support behind his campaign.”

Former acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller offered similar praise, pointing to Murphy’s media presence and long career in defense circles.

“Since launching his campaign, Morgan has made 34 national media appearances. He’s a clear, strong voice for President Trump and the State of Alabama. I’m not surprised, given he’s been that voice for the Department of War and U.S. Navy for 26 years,” Miller said.

Murphy is a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves, where he has served for 26 years. During and between Trump’s two terms, he worked in the administration and later served as Tuberville’s national security advisor. He also held a position as a senior fellow at the America First Policy Institute.

A Birmingham native, Murphy lives on Red Mountain and has an 11-year-old son. This is his first run for public office.
